This case is for AVA24 general education and fun.It has nothing to do with PICC lines, although the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary Veterinary staff have occasionally placed the equivalent of central catheters!Cincinnati Childrens Vascular Access Team assists the Cincinnati Zoo occasionally and some years ago,  placed a life saving PICC equivalent in a premie hippopotamus 

PICC (Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter) placed via left upper limb. Radiology Chest X-Ray report says "PICC tip in Right Jugular Vein". You are not sure that is correct!

Patient with bilateral upper limb PICCs. RIGHT PICC is no longer functioning. Bedside Nursing staff unable to flush or aspirate, therefore Vascular Access Team unable to infuse tPA (Tissue Plasminogen Activator).Clinical medical staff requested Interventional Radiology (IR) procedure for guide wire assisted PICC exchange, assuming that the lumen had become occluded by thrombus. IR attending declined to exchange PICC and suggested an alternative "procedure".

Patient with established PICC placed via the right upper limb. PICC became difficult to flush and aspirate. Chest Radiograph shows PICC has appeared to change position in relation to the cardiac outline

Newborn with Omphalocele. Peripherally Inserted Central Line (PICC) requested by clinical service. Clinical notes on the PICC Placement order stated "Left SVC identified on cardiac ultrasound yesterday".

Premie Neonate on high pressure ventilation. Vascular Access Team placed bedside PICC. Patient decompensated as the PICC dressing was being applied.
